GORC Vacation 2012 - Matt and Lisa Visit Phil's World, Discovers Still Way Awesome

Heading out a week earlier than the GORC crew, Matt and Lisa hit Santa Fe and Taos before basing out of Durango for a few days to catch up with Durango Doug and Dianna while riding the best stacked trail system in the region - Phil's World, located just outside of Cortez, Colorado.

Time Lapse on the Continental Divide

In this case the time lapse is 5 years, which is the difference between when these two photos were taken. The one on the top is from the top of Paywell Mtn. It was taken a few weeks ago, and it's looking north toward the western portal of the Alpine Tunnel.
The lower photo is looking south at Paywell Mtn. taken in 2005 from above the Alpine Tunnel, which sits squarely on the Continental Divide. You can see the turntable where the locomotives were turned around in the lower right. If you look really close, you can see Durango Doug standing right next to the turntable. I can't tell if he has his shirt on.

Day 1 - Images From Breckenridge

GORC has converged in Breckenridge, Colorado for some much needed R&R - which can only be achieved through mountainous climbs and starry-eyed vision quests. Here's the start of our (hopefully) daily report.

Lisa and I rode the Baker's Tank Loop yesterday (Thursday), it was a blast!

Baker's Tank on Boreas Pass - this former railroad grade featured a stop for trains to gather more water for steam. This is at the start of the Baker's Loop singletrack section.

Rode the single on Baker's Loop and had fun - only one short, steep singletrack climb. Got the Salsa for the longer rides - and backup.
